Clear Braces Q & A

What are clear braces?

Clear braces are an orthodontic treatment used to straighten your teeth and align your bite using a series of removable aligners made from smooth, flexible, plastic.

Clear braces represent a substantial upgrade from a more traditional orthodontic treatment like metal braces, offering patients a more comfortable, convenient, and efficient means of straightening their smile.

At Chambers Bridge Dental, Dr. McMaster uses SureSmile® Aligners, one of today’s best clear braces systems.

What conditions do clear braces treat?

Clear braces treat many of the same conditions that traditional metal braces correct, including:

  • Widely spaced teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Crooked teeth

They also correct malocclusions, or bite problems, like:

  • Underbite
  • Overbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite

Some patients even choose to get clear braces as a cosmetic measure when they want to straighten their teeth.

How do I get started with clear braces?

Your SureSmile journey towards a straighter smile begins by taking an impression of your smile. Dr. McMaster uses special digital tools to make a highly accurate impression of your mouth. He then uses that impression, along with special SureSmile software, to analyze your bite, your anatomical factors, and design your series of clear aligners.

Your aligners are designed to fit snugly over your teeth and exert a continuous pressure on your smile that gently pushes it towards its target alignment.

Each aligner is designed to shift your smile closer to your alignment goal progressively. You wear each aligner for a couple of weeks, then move on to the next aligner in your series.

You wear your aligners as often as possible (ideally for at least 22 hours every day), but you can take them out whenever you need to brush, floss, or eat.

What are the benefits of clear braces?

Clear braces have several benefits over orthodontic treatment with traditional metal braces, like:

Comfortable to wear

Your aligners are made from smooth, flexible plastic that won’t tear up the insides of your cheeks and are fabricated with a laser-trimmed, precision fit, so they rest perfectly on your smile.

Virtually invisible

The clear plastic of your aligners is nearly invisible on your teeth, so you won’t have to worry about the embarrassing mouthful-of-metal look that typically accompanies orthodontic treatment.

Easy to live with

You can take your aligners out whenever you need to eat, brush, or floss, so you won’t have to make any significant lifestyle adjustments during your treatment.
